UC Irvine Anatomic Pathology Service receives Accreditation Award

In August of 2015, UC Irvine Anatomic Pathology (AP) participated in the "Cancer Program Survey," conducted by the American College of Surgeons, Commission on Cancer.

The Commission on Cancer (CoC) is a nationally recognized multidisciplinary accreditation program that has developed comprehensive patient-centered standards for cancer programs. Cancer program surveys are a comprehensive evaluation of the entire scope, organization, and activity of a cancer program. A survey is performed every three years by a physician surveyor who is specially trained to evaluate compliance with the 34 standards that are required for accreditation.

From the "Accredited Cancer Program Performance Report," the inspector who surveyed UCIMC reported that UCI AP has provided clinical services for excellent pathology forms, compliant with standard "Cancer Protocols required by the College of American Pathologists." UC Irvine AP received the Accreditation Award for Three-Years with Commendation. This award is given to programs that comply with all standards at the time of survey and receives a commendation rating for 1 or more standards. As one of the highest accreditation awards, this is a major achievement for our UCI AP. As a member of an NCI-designated comprehensive cancer center, UCI Pathology will continue to provide the best service for cancer care in the community.
