Dedicated Collection Tubes for
Microbiology Molecular Testing


Purpose:

To inform all physicians and clinics that in our effort to maintain the integrity of specimens collected for molecular testing, improve patient safety, and follow the College of American Pathologists (CAP) recommendations to avoid any possible cross contamination, the Microbiology Division will require a dedicated tube for the following tests:

- Hepatitis C virus, Quantitative
- Hepatitis B virus, Quantitative
- Cytomegalovirus (CMV), Quantitative
- HIV-1 RNA, Quantitative
- BK virus, Quantitative

The preferred collection tube is PPT (pearl-top EDTA). More information can be found here: http://www.pathology.uci.edu/services/.

Implementation: The requirement will be effective on Feb. 12, 2018.
